Soaking in the Resurrection #2

A beautiful resurrection story worth reflecting on during Eastertide is that of Mary Magdalene (John 20:11-18). In this reflection, Mel shares what the experience of Jesus calling her by name could have been like. Have a read, and ponder with Jesus how he calls you to respond.

I wonder what it was like for Mary to hear Jesus call her by name. I wonder what his voice sounded like. I imagine it to have been a very poignant moment, for Mary’s immediate response was to greet Jesus and then to go forth to share her encounter with Jesus with the disciples.

When he spoke her name, she was transformed. The same invitation is open to us. This gospel invites us to sit and ponder, to imagine our own encounter with Jesus, and to hear him speak our name, bringing about deep transformation in the ways we need most.

Speak my name Jesus – and remind me of your tender love. Open my eyes to see you always and ever present.

Speak my name Jesus – and surprise me with your grace. Help me to know your presence in pain, in seeming absence, in every single moment.

Speak my name Jesus – into my lethargy. Shake me and wake me from the sleep of half-heartedness.

Speak my name Jesus – into my busyness and fatigue. Teach me to let go and give me strength, showing me the path that you desire me to follow".

Speak my name Jesus – and stir me to love you more as I hear your voice.

Speak my name Jesus – and (what do you ask of Jesus?)
